As an independent social worker

We can cut down the time you are likely to spend wondering or worrying about what support is out there and assist you in getting the help that you and your family/friends need and are entitled to. If you are assessed by social services a financial assessment is required; everyone is financially assessed for services provided by social care. Using an independent will cut down time, preserve your privacy and access the help you need. It is a chargeable service, but likely to save you time and money in the long-run and possibly help you to access funds and allowances you were unaware of.

We take referrals from solicitors as well as individuals to complete mental capacity assessments for health, wellbeing, finance and property decisions for the purposes of applications for Lasting Power of Attorney and Deputyship applications, completing the practitioner section of a COP3 (a form used in the Court of Protection for expert opinion on if a person has the mental capacity to make a specific decision.)

Using relevant case law and providing structure to see through important decisions, we can complete the capacity assessment required when changing a will, where there may be a concern regarding the person’s ability to do so, or the will could later be contested. With support and guidance from your legal representative, our mental capacity assessors can provide that extra layer of confidence in making and protecting these decisions.

Our independents continue to work closely with local authority teams, commissioned to complete DoLS assessments, as best interest assessors, to safeguard the relevant persons rights, when they are deprived of their liberty for their safety and unable to consent. This remains mainly in care homes, but also hospitals.

Please refer to the price list for fees of our services.

The first 25 miles is included in the fees, further than this is subject to travel expenses which will be discussed prior to making the booking. I guarantee a five day turn around.

I continue to work closely with local authority teams regularly completing best interests assessments for DoLS, where a person is deprived of their liberty for their safety. This is currently mainly in care homes, but also hospitals.

If you are looking for a professional and timely social work experience we offer this! No waiting lists, case-loads or unanswered queries or calls. Priority Social Work will respond to all enquiries promptly and offer a reassuring hand in dealing with challenging and sensitive matters!

Background of the founder of Priority Social Work

My work background started in offices and with a super quick touch typing speed I’ve never been short of work! This skill transferred over to becoming a social worker as well as my empathic and compassionate nature and I now have over 20 years of working in social care firmly under my belt, starting out as a volunteer for women’s aid and then at a homeless shelter. My experience supporting people started off at ground level, very hands on!

I now have the opportunity to offer extensive experience and knowledge of completing robust assessments ranging from care needs, nursing needs, mental capacity, reablement, hospital discharge, residential and nursing placement and of course evidencing, support planning and reviewing of placement and care packages, that is essential to keep our loved ones safe.

All social workers working with Priority Social work have been assessing mental capacity since 2009 in ADULT social care local authorities and hospital environments. I made the decision in 2015 to become an independent social worker, following additional training in 2014 as a best interests assessor to complete DoLS (deprivation of liberty safeguard). Motivated and driven by injustice, I was tasked as the safeguarding champion in my team, having a particular penchant for protecting people at risk of harm and this I continue to do, with a passion!
